Baggage allowance on Thai for your route of travel is not based on number of pieces of check in bags, but on the basis of weight. So, your allowance for economy class travel is 35 kg in check-in baggage. If you want to carry more than this weight, then there is a charge. And, this charge is USD 45 per excess kg if you pay at airport. If you pay online, airlines generally provide some discount.

Are both flights operated by AirAsia. Since you have posted this query on Thai baggage allowance page, are you travelling the second leg on Thai? If yes, Thai domestic baggage allowance policy would apply and the allowance for economy class travel is 30 kg check in baggage.

As per lufthansa rules, the intecontinental flights wherein other carriers are also involved, the baggage allowance policy of the carrier which flies the maximum distance applies. In this case this is Thai Airways. The overweight luggage would then be calculated as per Thai airways baggage allowance rules. However, in order to reconfirm, we would suggest that you also speak to the airline office with which the ticket was booked in the first place. Charges for excess baggage are, in general, sector wise. So, you might have to pay twice. However, depending on the airline agreements among themselves, this can alter. This picture will also be clear when you speak to the airline directly.

Carriage of this telescope in cabin will depend on how the airline officials take it at the airport. If it is perceived to be a harmless object, it will be allowed but within the permitted cabin baggage size and overall weight limits.

Sum of dimensions shall be considered for check in baggage. It shall be 158 cm in L+B+H and weight shall be less than 20 kg.
The dimensions you are mentioning is that of the cabin bag and the weight allowance for that shall be up to 7 kg. So, it is 1 check in bag and 1 cabin bag.
You are confusing between the two. I hope we have made this clear now.

At first, generally it is not allowed to club the cabin bag with the check in bag for free. You put the cabin bag along with check in bag but if this increases the weight of check in bag then excess baggage charges will have to be paid. Though this is the general rule, you can still speak to the airline officials at the airport if they permit you to carry it in this way.
Second, baggage allowances are per person. If the baby is not travelling along in return flight, then its allowance will not be counted even if you have bought the ticket.
