Air Astana is the national carrier of Kazakhstan, a Central Asian republic. In order to strengthen its connectivity with the region, Air India, the national carrier of India has entered into a codeshare pact with Air Astana. This expansion is also the result of growing aviation market in the CIS countries.

The agreement is likely to benefit not only the passengers from India but also from the Star Alliance member states to reach out to Almaty and from thereon to other destinations of the region. It is noteworthy that Air India is also a member of the Star Alliance. Air India will be the marketing carrier on  Delhi-Almaty-Delhi route and it would be able to book seats independently of the operating carrier Air Astana.

Air India has codeshare pacts with 14 other airlines of the world. This makes Air Astana 15th such airline.
