Delta Airlines permits passengers on its flights to carry baggage in check-in hold of the airplane as well as in the cabin. The first and the second baggage for Main Cabin class of its flights is generally charged for while the other class passengers are allowed to bring their check in bags of higher weight limits without any extra cost. Besides, it follows different allowance policies on the basis of routes it is flying on international sectors. Thus, there is a variation in the baggage allowances which shall be duly considered before booking its flights. Delta Airlines also remains committed to the security of the country and maintains high respect for the requirements of armed forces while flying. In that respect, there is a separate policy of Delta Airlines baggage allowance for armed forces personnel.

Baggage Rules

Delta Airlines allows military personnel to have more baggage allowances for free than the normal passengers, for their duty travel and also for their personal travel. For their personal travel, Delta Airlines allows 2 bags of 23 kg each free for Main Cabin and 3 bags of 32 kg each for Business, First and Delta One class of travel. The size of each check in bag for personal travel is 157 cm.

For those military personnel who are travelling on duty and for official purposes, are allowed to carry 4 bags of 32 kg each in Main Cabin class and 5 bags of 32 kg each on other classes of travel. Further, the size of each such bag can be a maximum of 203 cm.

Applicability

The check in baggage allowance for military personnel is applicable with following terms and conditions:

  1. Military personnel shall be in active duty
  2. Valid for both Delta-operated and Delta-marketed flights
  3. Applicable when they are moving with dependents on orders to or from their duty stations
  4. Applicable for dependent active military personnel travelling separately on relocation orders.
  5. Allowance is also allowed for 8 other companion passengers travelling on same PNR. Companions shall travel on same itinerary or their itinerary must match with that of active US military personnel.

Thus, Delta follows a very liberal baggage allowance policy for active personnel of armed forces. The benefits do not extend only to military personnel but also to their dependents who can fly with the same allowances. The airlines also provide concessional fares to military personnel for their travel.
