FAA Okays E-Cigarettes for Cabin Not for Checked in Baggage

A recent ruling by the FAA makes it mandatory for the airlines to amend the rules of checked in baggage to deny the presence of e-cigarettes in the checked baggage. The ruling comes as an aftermath of the investigations into two incidents of fire which were reported a few years back. The reason for the cause of fire was linked to the presence of e-cigarettes in the checked luggage. It is to be noted that these cigarettes are based on the lithium battery driven ignition which can spill over or can leak when not handled properly and can be potential fire hazard as checked baggage. While FAA has asked for airlines not to allow these as checked luggage, it has also asked them to amend the carry on or hand baggage rules to permit these in the cabin, along with the passengers.

With this finding from the top aviation administration body of USA whose recommendations are held sacrosanct world over and are followed religiously, there are good chances of airlines following the recommendations without ado.
