Jet Airways is taking up the technology and social media route to improve its functioning which will ultimately lead to greater passenger convenience and higher satisfaction. In the very recent past, it has taken initiatives on two fronts which have not been done any time in the past by the Indian carriers.

The first of these two news was of testing of mobile check in and boarding pass systems in a limited way from Bangalore airport. While many airlines of the world already provide this service of convenient check in from mobile and getting the boarding pass either in their mobiles or in their emails, to be shown to the airport staff or getting it printed out, there was no such system in place at the airports for adopt this system. A number of security concerns and consequent operational difficulties were cited for not allowing these services.

The second news from Jet Airways is the launch of their twitter-based service that would help passengers to get real time information about the flights and best air fares. This can be done by using the hashtag #JetInstant. This has been using the services of its technology partner TravelSpends. In order to make use of this service, passengers are first required to follow the official twitter account of Jet Airways (@jetairways).

In order to check the flight status, flyers are required to tweet @jetairways fltstatus <Flight No> <Departure Date in DDMM format>. Flyers will get the immediate flight status update as a Direct Message.

For checking the low fares, services from Lofares are to be used. Flyers are required to tweet @jetairways lofares <Origin> <Destination> <Departure Date in DDMM format> <Return Date in DDMM format>’.

Jet Airways is taking measures to improve the customer experience and engagement with it using different technological and social platforms.
