May 25, 2015

Returning from the brink of being shut down, SpiceJet, India’s budget carrier is now on the path of mending its finances and, to meet this end, it has started playing around with some new services. Till now, Spicejet had been famous for initiation of price wars by offering tickets at extremely low prices- a move that it often calls as ‘market stimulation’. However, these new services are aimed at adding to the coffers of its exchequer. Aiming to provide more convenience to the flyers by doing away with the hassles involved and delivering a smooth on-ground and on-board experience, SpiceJet has introduced the following services that will be charged for extra:

  1. Priority Check In: By paying Rs 200 per passenger, you would become eligible for moving straight to a special check in counter at the airport which will process your check in faster and ahead of others. So you are saved of the need to be in long queues.

  2. Spice Assist: This is another service of the carrier which would help you all the way from your arrival or departure points. This service is available at extra charges of Rs 500 per passenger. Most of the people who do not know what to do at the airport and need guidance, especially the first time travellers, children and aged people would benefit by this service.
  3. Bag-out-first: Locating the bag can be a real time consuming affair at the airport. If you want your baggage to be on the conveyor belt ahead of others so that you can take it out first, it will be tagged suitably and the handlers will ensure that these bags come out first. This service is particularly useful for people who have connecting flights with very less time gap, those who are in hurry in general or do not mind paying extra for taking it first. This service is available for extra payment of Rs 100 per bag.Spice Assurance
  4. Spice Assurance: Close on the heels of travel insurance, this service is meant to relieve you of all worries related to loss of baggage, delays of flights, cancellations of flights, etc. This is available at Rs 35 per flight.

Even as Spicejet introduced these services, it is important for flyers to request or buy these at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure of flights.
