Unaccompanied Minor Fees Comparisons on Major US Airlines

Airlines have their policies for carrying children and, in particular, the unaccompanied minors. Here is a comparison of policies of the major US carriers.

Age of Children Airline and its policy
Less than 5 years old No airline permits them to fly alone
5-11 years UMNR service needed for Southwest and United Airlines
5-12 years UMNR service needed for Alaska Airline
5-14 years UMNR service needed for American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, US Airways and Virgin America.

These airlines also have different unaccompanied minor fees for their services. This is provided below:

Airlines UNMR Fees
Alaska $25 each way and$50 for connecting flights
Southwest $50 each way
Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit $100 each way
American, Delta, United and US Airways $150 each way
Virgin America Tiered System- $75 each way for flights of less than 2 hours, $100 for >2hrs, $125 for flights to/from Mexico

If you have the minors travelling with you, it would be in the fitness of things to plan your travel so that you can effect savings on minor fees charged. At least, you shall know what the airline policies and fees are for unaccompanied minors.
