US Customs Pre Clearance Facility

February 08, 2015

It is one facility which the US-bound travelers from around the world would love to have at almost every airport of the world. The reason is quite simple. With this facility in place at the airports world over, the people traveling to US would not have to wait in long queues at the immigration and customs desks at the US airports and would instead be pre-cleared, making them eligible to travel as domestic passengers.

These facilities are manned by personnel from US Customs and Border Protection department and are spread out to airports, trains and port facilities around the world. Currently, these types of facilities are existing at all major airports in Canada, some in the Caribbean, two airports in Ireland and one in UAE. The passengers have to pass through different levels of inspections at these offshore pre-clearance facilities. These inspection levels are of Immigration and Customs, Public Health and Department of Agriculture.

One of the major benefits of these facilities has been that the US airlines operating out of these airports can divert their flights to the secondary airports, reducing the pressure on the major airports.

Recently there has been news of Etihad Airlines extending the facility of pre-clearance to all its flights from Abu Dhabi. Another news has been of Birmingham-based passengers being extended this facility while flying to US from Dublin. This serves as a great convenience for the passengers who are traveling to US from different parts of the globe.
